Echo of my footsteps, and the crackling of broken glass on the floor.
When you think of a “ghost” town you don’t imagine it to be so peaceful, but in reality walking in the radioactive town of Pripyat was exactly that.
The swiming pool “Azure” was open further 10 years after the accident to serve those working at the plant.
Remains of a glass mosaics in cafe “Prypiat”.
An open air dance floor just outside the city.
Someones small footsteps, etched forever in the pavement.
The canvas screen in the movie theatre, ripped to shreds.
Graffiti in one of the balconies with the reactor barely visible in the distant mid-day haze.
Empty elevator shaft in the 16 storey apartment building.
The apartments themselves are completely barren, nothing more than wallpapers and some empty cabinets remain.
In one of the corridors a lamp fixture attracted a colony of some sort of mosquitoes.
The hammer and sickle symbol on the roof of the apartment building shone neon at nights.
From the roof the reactor is easily visible, “Chernobyl new safe containment” – the huge 100 meter tall arch shaped building, dominating the distant landscape.
That glass mosaic is fantastic. Thanks for sharing. Happy travels!
Thanks, Hamilton, same to you :].
