House of God

This church used to send out peoples prayers, now it sends and receives radio signals. One of the must see’s of Vilnius.

Snaking inside it are hundreds of meters of wires,originating in an array of buzzing high-tech boxes cramped up inside the tower and protruding outside in the form of antennae.

The place has this cool cyber-gothic feel to it.

Besides the communication equipment the interior is barren. In soviet era the church was converted into a warehouse. After the independence it was given back to the religious institution, but was never used according to it s purpose.

To me the late baroque architecture here is beautiful. Though I feel thankful for being able to explore this building so intimately, but its a shame to see it crumbling before my eyes.

Two Steel Bridges

On the outskirts of Vilnius two railway bridges stand, one old, one less so. The new one replaced the other, but it still stands next to it, a beautiful artifact of  early 20th century engineering.

The older brother is no longer in use, but still in a surprisingly good shape.

You can climb up the newer one.

Church on Gedimino avenue

Never miss a chance to visit a church. Especialy if you have a chance to see it from a unique perspective. We are so used to turning our heads look up to the house of God its always refreshing to experience it from a viewpoint only someone who was building it had.

On buildings like these there’s always new layers of detail to be found.

While you there, take the chance to tour the areas where very few curious eyes are permitted official access.

Also make some time to chillax a few dozen meters closer to God before coming down.
